Kathmandu: Nepali mountaineer Prakash Raj Pandey has successfully climbed Mount Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia’s Papua province on August 17. He reached the summit at 9:30 a.m. local time and proudly hoisted the Nepali national flag along with banners of Nepal Clout, Rotary International, and other organizations.
Pandey is on a mission to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents under the Seven Summits campaign. This marks his fifth successful climb since beginning the campaign in 2022. He had previously scaled Mount Everest (2018), Mount Elbrus in Europe, Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Aconcagua in South America.
During the expedition, Pandey also raised awareness on climate change by engaging with local communities and fellow climbers. Describing the ascent, he said the mountain’s steep cliffs and rock formations made the climb particularly challenging.
A team of six climbers, including two Americans, a Polish climber, and two Indonesians, joined Pandey on the climb. The summit coincided with Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, making the achievement more festive for the local team.
