Nepal´s Foreign Minister Khanal Urges Portugal to Review Cases of Nepali Nationals Facing Legal Issues

Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal held a telephone conversation with Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, on April 1.
During the conversation, Minister Khanal requested his Portuguese counterpart to reconsider the status of more than 2,000 Nepali nationals in Portugal who are facing procedural and legal challenges. The issues stem from fake stamps reportedly affixed to their genuine documents—particularly Police Clearance Certificates—purportedly attested by the embassies of Portugal and Nepal in New Delhi.
Responding to the concern, Minister Rangel acknowledged the contributions of the Nepali community to Portugal’s economy. He assured that the matter would be raised with the relevant authorities, emphasizing a humane approach in reviewing the cases of the affected individuals.
Rangel also extended his congratulations to Minister Khanal on assuming office and wished him a successful tenure.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the strong state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Nepal and Portugal in key sectors, including hydropower, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, and information technology.
