Nepal’s PM Oli Stresses Need for Sustainable Infrastructure and Transit Systems for LLDCs

Kathmandu: Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli has addressed the High-Level Thematic Roundtable-4 on “Building Sustainable Infrastructure, Strengthening Connectivity, and Promoting Unfettered Transit Systems for Landlocked Developing Countries”, during the LLDC3 Conference in Awaza on August 7, 2025.

In his statement, Prime Minister Oli underscored that for landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), sustainable infrastructure, seamless connectivity, and efficient transit systems are not optional, they are essential for economic transformation and global competitiveness.

He highlighted the persistent challenges faced by LLDCs, including lack of sea access, high trade costs, and weak connectivity. To address these issues, he called for investment in integrated, climate-resilient infrastructure, adoption of digital technologies, and the creation of reliable and efficient transit systems. He also stressed the need to simplify and modernize customs procedures.

PM Oli said that Nepal has made sustainable infrastructure and improved connectivity a national priority to achieve the goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.” He emphasized Nepal’s commitment to expanding cross-border linkages and strengthening regional cooperation for smooth transit and trade.

Referring to the Awaza Programme of Action, the Prime Minister said it rightly identifies infrastructure, connectivity, and transit as key pillars for growth and resilience. He called on the international community to renew its commitment to connecting LLDCs to global opportunities and ensuring no country is left behind.

“We must deliver on the promise,” he concluded, “and build a future of equity, inclusion, and shared progress.”
