Kathmandu: Zhang Maoming has officially assumed office as the 23rd Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, expressing commitment to further strengthening China–Nepal relations.
Upon his arrival on February 13, Ambassador Zhang said he was honored to take on the responsibility entrusted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and thanked people from all sectors for their long-standing support to China–Nepal friendship.
He highlighted that China and Nepal are close neighbors with a history of mutual trust and cooperation spanning 71 years. He reaffirmed China’s support for Nepal’s sovereignty, development path, and socio-economic progress, while acknowledging Nepal’s consistent adherence to the one-China principle.

Recalling President Xi’s historic 2019 visit to Nepal, Ambassador Zhang noted that bilateral ties were elevated to a Strategic Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Everlasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity. He said cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and people-to-people exchanges have brought tangible benefits to both countries.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Zhang said China is entering the 15th Five-Year Plan period and will expand high-standard opening up, creating new opportunities for partners like Nepal. He expressed readiness to work closely with Nepal to promote shared development and deepen cooperation across all sectors.
He also pledged that the Chinese Embassy in Nepal will continue people-centered diplomacy and safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese nationals.
Ambassador Zhang concluded by calling for joint efforts to further advance China–Nepal strategic partnership and build a community with a shared future.
