Norway Provides Additional Support for Climate-Smart Education in Nepal

Kathmandu: The Government of Norway has committed an additional NOK 1 million to strengthen green and climate-smart education in Nepal.

The support will enable UNESCO and UNICEF to work with the Principals Association of Nepal, a network of more than 22,000 community school headteachers, to develop interdisciplinary lesson plans that include education for sustainable development and climate change.

The initiative builds on commitments made during the 2025 National Summit on Climate Action and Green Schools, aiming to create long-term impact. Norway’s assistance will also help digitize the Comprehensive School Safety Minimum Package in partnership with CEHRD, making the learning materials available through its national online portal.

Officials say the collaboration will help make Nepal’s education system more resilient, accessible, and supportive of climate action.
