Kathmandu: Dagny Mjøs, Ambassador of Norway to Nepal, together with Kyoko Yokosuka, UNDP Nepal Resident Representative, inaugurated the Dhaulapani Lift Irrigation System in Jumla on November 17.
The system has been implemented under the Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (RERAS) project, in partnership with the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre. It provides reliable irrigation water to farmers in Tatopani Rural Municipality, helping households increase the production and consumption of indigenous crops and fresh vegetables, thereby improving food and nutrition security.
So far, the project has supplied 22 kW of energy, enabling irrigation that has yielded 47 metric tons of crops. RERAS aims to directly support 10,000 households and expand access to clean energy for more than 15,000 people by integrating renewable energy into agriculture.
During her first field visit to Jumla, Ambassador Mjøs said the Norway-supported RERAS project is transforming lives by powering irrigation, supporting locally grown school meals, strengthening women farmers, and building resilient communities.
