Kathmandu: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a young Indian-American politician, chose a Nepali restaurant to meet with his district representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) on November 6.
Sharing a photo on X (formerly Twitter), Mayor Mamdani posted a picture of himself chatting with AOC over a meal of chicken tandoori, milk tea, and potatoes. “The first day as mayor was a busy one: interviews, announcements, meetings, and more in one morning,” he wrote. “But the highlight of all of this was a lunch meeting with our representative AOC at Laliguras Bistro in Jackson Heights.”
Laliguras Bistro, established in 2008, is a well-known restaurant in the Nepali-majority neighborhood of Jackson Heights. Both Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez have previously posted in Nepali during their election campaigns, engaging with the city’s growing Nepali community.
