Patan Featured Among World’s Best Culinary Destinations

Kathmandu: Patan (Lalitpur) has been featured in Condé Nast Traveller’s prestigious global list of “The Best Places to Eat in 2026,” placing the historic city among the world’s most exciting culinary destinations.

The recognition highlights Patan’s unique gastronomic identity, rooted in centuries-old Newari food traditions and complemented by a growing contemporary dining and beverage scene where heritage, culture, and cuisine converge.

This recognition comes amid growing international attention for Nepal’s tourism sector. Recently, National Geographic highlighted Nepal for its authentic, community-based travel experiences, while BBC Travel featured the country’s southern Terai for its rich wildlife, sacred landscapes, vibrant cultures, and strong tradition of hospitality guided by the belief that “the guest is god.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, said that being featured by Condé Nast Traveller, alongside recognition from National Geographic and BBC Travel, is a proud moment for Nepal. He noted that Patan’s inclusion reflects growing global appreciation for Nepal’s living heritage, local flavours, and creative culinary communities, strengthening the country’s image beyond natural landscapes and positioning its cities and communities as vibrant destinations for meaningful and diverse travel experiences.
