Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a telephonic conversation with her Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on March 5, expressing concern over recent developments in the West Asia region.
During the call, PM Karki thanked the Qatari Prime Minister on behalf of the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people for ensuring the safety and protection of approximately 360,000 Nepali citizens residing in Qatar.
She emphasised that Nepal is closely monitoring the situation and called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and protect civilians. Highlighting Nepal’s commitment to international norms, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of adhering to the United Nations Charter, international law, the Geneva Conventions, and humanitarian principles.
Stressing diplomacy over conflict, PM Karki said that constructive dialogue remains the only viable path to durable peace. She also expressed hope that bilateral ties between Nepal and Qatar would further strengthen through upcoming high-level visits, socio-economic cooperation, and people-to-people relations.
Prime Minister Thani welcomed the discussion, praising the cordial and friendly relations between the two countries.
