PM Oli Expresses Concern Over Nepalis Affected by Uttarakhand Floods

Kathmandu: Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has expressed deep concern over reports that Nepali citizens have been among those affected by the recent floods and landslides in Uttarakhand, India. He confirmed that diplomatic efforts are underway to ensure their rescue and safety.

Returning home today from an official visit to Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Oli wrote on Facebook,”I am concerned about the tragic news that floods have caused significant loss of life and property in Uttarakhand, our neighboring and friendly country. It has been reported that more than 17 Nepali citizens have also been affected. Immediate diplomatic discussions were held through our embassy to facilitate their rescue.”

The Prime Minister extended heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, wishing them strength during this difficult time.

Preliminary reports suggest that at least 17 Nepali citizens, including 13 from Kushe Rural Municipality in Jajarkot and four from Madhuban in Bardiya, may have been impacted. According to Harichandra Basnet, chairman of Kushe Rural Municipality, more than 13 people from the area have been reported missing.

The disaster struck on August 5 when sudden floods and landslides swept through the hilly region of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand province, near the Nepal border. Settlements, including Dharali, were severely damaged. Nepalis who had traveled there for work are among those believed to be affected. The Indian government, supported by the army and disaster relief teams, continues search and rescue operations in the area.
