Kathmandu: Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Indira Ranamagar has said that Nepal has always valued its relationship with China as a friendly neighbour, strategic partner and fellow developing country.
She said cooperation and friendship between the two countries span trade, investment, infrastructure and connectivity, as well as culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. She also appreciated China’s assistance in Nepal’s development endeavours.
Addressing the closing ceremony of a series of events marking the 70th anniversary of Nepal–China diplomatic relations in Kathmandu on Friday, Ranamagar said bilateral ties should be further strengthened at the people-to-people level in addition to formal diplomatic engagement.
She noted that the 70th anniversary was not only an occasion to reflect on past achievements with pride but also an opportunity to look ahead with hope, expressing satisfaction over the long-standing, trouble-free relations between the two countries.
Similarly, Zhou Pan, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of China in Kathmandu, said that continued enhancement of mutual understanding and affinity through civilisational exchanges would enable both countries to achieve mutual learning, shared prosperity and contribute to the advancement of human civilisation.
He said high-level exchanges between Nepal and China have maintained good momentum, providing strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. “Political mutual trust has been further consolidated, and we firmly support each other’s efforts to safeguard core interests,” Zhou said.
On the occasion, Zhou said China’s recently unveiled 15th Five-Year Plan is highly aligned with Nepal’s national development strategy and would create significant opportunities for Nepal’s sustainable development. “China stands ready to deepen exchanges with Nepal on governance and work together to advance practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, connectivity, agriculture, poverty alleviation and youth development,” he said.
“Practical cooperation in economy and trade has yielded fruitful results, while people-to-people and cultural exchanges have grown closer. Small yet impactful livelihood projects are benefiting people in both countries, and youth programmes have continuously deepened mutual affection,” Zhou said, adding that such concrete actions demonstrate the enduring friendship between Nepal and China.
The ceremony, organised to mark the 70th anniversary of Nepal–China diplomatic relations, also featured Chinese cultural performances, exhibitions and other activities. Ministers, political leaders, representatives of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, senior government officials, university officials, members of the Chinese community in Nepal and others attended the programme.
