President Amb. Dr. Sarmila Receives Prof. Dr. Bhagawan at the Ambassadors Club Nepal, Discusses Health Diplomacy

Kathmandu: Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Prof. Dr. Bhagawan Koirala was welcomed by Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of Ambassadors Club Nepal, at the club’s office in Kathmandu on March 8.


During the meeting, Amb. Dr. Sarmila and Prof. Dr. Bhagawan held discussions on the growing importance of health diplomacy and the role of the health sector in strengthening international engagement. They exchanged views on how Nepal’s health expertise and institutions can contribute to global cooperation and partnerships in healthcare.

Amb. Dr. Sarmila, who previously served as Nepal’s ambassador to Spain and Oman, emphasized the importance of integrating health issues into diplomatic dialogue and international collaboration.

Prof. Dr. Bhagawan, a leading figure in Nepal’s cardiac surgery field, currently serves as the Founding Chairman of the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health. He has previously held several key positions in the country’s health sector, including Executive Director of the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre and the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

In addition, Prof. Dr. Bhagawan served as Chairman of the Nepal Medical Council from 2019 to 2023, playing an important role in regulating and strengthening Nepal’s medical profession.

The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the medical and diplomatic communities in promoting global health cooperation and advancing Nepal’s international engagement in the health sector.

Moreover, publisher of The Diplomat Nepal magazine, Bimal Dhakal, handed over the magazine to Prof. Dr. Bhagawan.
