Kathmandu: President Ram Chandra Poudel has extended his best wishes to all Nepali children and their parents on the occasion of National Children’s Day.
National Children’s Day is celebrated every year on 29 Bhadra, marking the day Nepal ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The slogan for this year’s Children’s Day is “Investment in Children: The Beginning of a Secure Future.” In his message, President Poudel emphasized that the day is intended to highlight the need for investment in education, health, security, and overall development for children.
“The Constitution of Nepal guarantees the rights of children as a fundamental right. An integrated and coordinated role of government and non-government bodies, civil society, parents, schools, and other stakeholders is essential for the effective implementation of national and international commitments and constitutional provisions regarding children. This day can motivate society and the state to act consciously, prioritizing the interests of children,” the message states.
President Poudel also noted that some children are still deprived of their rights, stressing the need to draw attention to the impacts on children due to various reasons. He called on all relevant stakeholders to prevent inhumane treatment, violence, and abuse against children.
“To ensure the future of children, it is necessary to provide creative, practical, free, and quality education, nutritious food, safe drinking water and sanitation, necessary vaccinations, child-friendly health institutions, and supportive policies and legal frameworks. I hope this day will help ensure equal opportunities for children of all communities by creating safe environments at home, school, and in the community,” the message added.
President Poudel expressed his hope that Children’s Day will further inspire all those involved in the holistic development of children and encourage all parties to play their respective roles in the protection, development, and participation of children.
