Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki invited the Nepali Blind Women’s Cricket Team to her residence in Baluwatar on November 24 to congratulate them on their historic performance in the first-ever Blind Women’s T-20 Cricket World Cup.
Commending the team for their remarkable achievement, the Prime Minister said the accomplishment was a proud moment for Nepali sports. “This success is the result of your hard work, collective spirit, and determination,” she stated. “Every player and official deserves to be proud of this achievement. Strive to become champions next time.”
Prime Minister Karki praised the team’s talent and dedication, noting that their progress—achieved largely through their own initiative—was highly commendable. She added that government support could help elevate the team further. “If the government is able to invest in this sector, even greater progress can be made. I will discuss with the relevant ministries and agencies what can be done on behalf of the government,” she assured.
The Nepali team, led by coach Puran Singh Khatri and captain Geeta Poudel, recently secured second place in the tournament held in Sri Lanka. Team members shared that they defeated teams from resource-rich countries and expressed confidence that with greater government backing, they could become champions in future competitions.
