Qatar’s Former Leader Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Passes Away, Nepal President, Vice-President Extend Condolences

Kathmandu: The Qatar government announced the death of former leader Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who led the country from 1995 to 2013, on July 12. 

“With hearts steadfast in faith in God’s decree and destiny, the Bureau of the Emir mourns the great loss to the nation of the late — may God have mercy on him — His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” read a statement published by the emir’s office on social media.

President and Vice President of Nepal have extended condolences on the occasion.

Rt. Hon. President Ram Chandra Paudel released a statement on social media: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing today, at the age of 74, of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of the State of Qatar, and the father of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar.”

The president extended his heartfelt condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, the entire Royal Family and the friendly people of Qatar. “May Almighty God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable national loss,” Nepal president wrote in the statement.

Rt. Hon. Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yada also released a statement where he said, “Deeply saddened by the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar. I extend heartfelt condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the esteemed Royal Family and the friendly people of Qatar.”
