REDD Implementation Center Calls for Investment Plans from Community Forest Groups

Kathmandu: The REDD Implementation Center Nepal under the Ministry of Forests and Environment Nepal has requested community forest user groups to submit investment plans related to the sharing of benefits from carbon sequestration and emission reduction.

In a public notice issued on March 14, the center asked concerned groups to submit their plans by March 22. The notice targets community forest user groups in 13 districts under the Terai biosphere reserve.

According to the center, the districts include Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur, covering areas in Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The center said the first installment of benefits has already been received through the Emission Reduction Program, which has been implemented across around two million hectares of forest areas in these districts.

Community-based forest user groups managing national forests and buffer zones are required to prepare investment plans in the prescribed format and submit them to the REDD Cell at the respective Division Forest Offices by the deadline.

The plans may include activities related to forest management and biodiversity conservation in line with the approved action plans of the user groups. For further details, groups can obtain the investment plan format from the REDD Implementation Center’s website or the concerned Division Forest Office.
