Russia and Nepal Celebrate 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Kathmandu: Russia and Nepal celebrated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations on July 20. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, H.E. Sergey Lavrov, and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Shisir Khanal, exchanged congratulatory messages. 

Foreign Minister of Russia Federation Lavrov said, “ Russia-Nepal relations have always been of friendly nature and based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of fundamental interests of each other. 

He further stated, “We confirm our readiness to work jointly with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation for the sake of our peoples. I am confident that Russia-Nepal collaboration will contribute to maintaining stability and security at the regional and international level.” 

Likewise, Foreign Minister of Nepal Khanal said that Nepal attaches high importance to its cordial and longstanding relations with the Russian Federation. “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 20 July 1956, our two countries have together nurtured a relationship characterized by friendship, mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation,” he said. 

He further stated, “As we celebrate this significant milestone in our bilateral relations, it is an opportune time to chart new avenues of cooperation that will further deepen and widen our partnership over the next seventy years.”
