Kathmandu: The Secretary General of SAARC, Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar, paid a farewell courtesy call on the President of the Republic of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The President expressed deep appreciation for the Secretary General’s unwavering dedication and distinguished leadership in guiding SAARC through a period of considerable global and regional challenges. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ steadfast commitment to SAARC and to revitalize SAARC process, highlighting that regional cooperation remains a fundamental pillar in advancing shared goals of socioeconomic development, blue economy and maritime security across South Asia.
The Secretary General expressed profound gratitude to the Government and people of the Maldives for the steadfast support extended to the SAARC Secretariat throughout his tenure. The Secretary General highlighted Maldives’ role in advancing various regional initiatives.
Both dignitaries engaged in a constructive exchange of views on the future of regional integration, underscoring the importance of revitalizing SAARC mechanisms to effectively address common challenges, including climate change, food security, public health, and post pandemic economic recovery. They also discussed the evolving security situation in West Asia, sharing perspectives on its implications for regional stability and cooperation.
The President expressed his good wishes to the Secretary General for his future plans.
