Safari Opens in Shuklaphanta National Park

Dodhara Chandani: Jungle safari tours have resumed in Shuklaphanta National Park, with the park administration reopening the activity for tourists from Monday.

According to the park’s Information Officer Purushottam Wagle, the safari had remained closed since the onset of the monsoon due to road damage caused by heavy rainfall. The service has now reopened, though only along two designated routes, as repair works continue on other paths.

Tourists can now enter the park via Majhagaun–Bathaniya Taal–Baba Taal–Dudhiya Camp–Rani Taal–Singhapur and return through the same route. The second open route runs from Majhagaun–Paliyaphanta–Hattisar Chowk to Barkola Post, also requiring visitors to return the same way.

Spread over an area of 305 square kilometers, Shuklaphanta National Park is renowned for its large population of swamp deer (reindeer), with more than 2,323 recorded in the park.

According to park officials, the park also provides rich habitats for a wide range of wildlife, including 56 species of reptiles, 15 species of amphibians, 88 species of fish, 111 species of butterflies, 461 species of birds, and 56 species of mammals.
