SriLankan Airlines Adds Airbus A330-200 to Fleet, Eyes Expansion of Nepal Flights

In Nepal, SriLankan Airlines currently operates four commercial flights per week, primarily using narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft.

KATHMANDU: SriLankan Airlines, the national flag carrier of Sri Lanka, has added a new Airbus A330-200 aircraft to its fleet, bringing the total number of aircraft to 22.

The airline, which currently operates with Airbus A330-300 and A320 series aircraft, plans to expand its international destinations with the addition of the new wide-body aircraft.

In Nepal, SriLankan Airlines operates four commercial flights per week, primarily using narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft. However, the airline is preparing to deploy the newly acquired Airbus A330-200 on the Kathmandu-Colombo route in response to increasing passenger demand, according to Zenith Travels, the airline’s General Sales Agent (GSA) in Nepal.

“If there is consistent two-way passenger demand, the A330-200 could be introduced on the Nepal route soon,” said Deepak Mainali, Manager at Zenith Travels.

Mainali said that current passenger traffic between Sri Lanka and Nepal is satisfactory, with the average occupancy rate on the Kathmandu-Colombo sector reaching around 90 percent.
