Kathmandu: Suraj Vaidya assumed the deanship of the Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCCN). In his statement he stated, “It is with great honor and a deep sense of responsibility that I assume the office of Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCCN). I do so with profound respect for the distinguished legacy of my predecessors, whose leadership has strengthened HCCN’s standing as an important bridge between Nepal and the international community. I remain fully committed to upholding the vision, mission, and values that have guided the organization over the years while building upon its achievements.”
The Honorary Consular Corps Nepal represents more than 64 countries across every major region of the world. Collectively, these nations account for a substantial share of the global economy, international trade, technology, innovation, tourism, and investment. They also represent over five billion people and generate well over US$100 trillion in combined economic output. These relationships present Nepal with extraordinary opportunities to expand its global partnerships and accelerate sustainable economic growth.
Viraj further stated, “At a time when Nepal is seeking to attract greater foreign direct investment, diversify its economy, create employment opportunities, strengthen tourism, and expand international trade, the role of economic diplomacy has never been more important. Honorary Consuls serve as trusted bridges between nations, facilitating cooperation not only between governments but also between businesses, educational institutions, investors, entrepreneurs, and communities.”
He stated that during his tenure,one of HCCN’s foremost priorities will be to work in close partnership with the Government of Nepal, relevant ministries, constitutional bodies, and the private sector to deepen engagement with the countries represented by our members. “Together, we hope to support Nepal’s efforts to attract quality investment, promote tourism, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, strengthen trade and market access, encourage educational and cultural exchanges, and expand meaningful people-to-people connections,” he said.
HCCN also recognizes that Nepal’s greatest strength lies in collaboration. Sustainable national progress can best be achieved when the government, the private sector, diplomatic partners, and civil society work together with a shared vision. As an institution, HCCN stands ready to contribute its international networks, experience, and goodwill in support of Nepal’s long-term development priorities and global aspirations.
Viraj said he looks forward to working closely with fellow Honorary Consuls, the diplomatic community, development partners, business leaders, and all stakeholders to further strengthen HCCN’s contribution to Nepal. Together to reinforce Nepal’s international profile, create new opportunities for cooperation, and help build a more prosperous, connected, and globally engaged nation.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the members of HCCN for the confidence they have placed in him and extended his heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing Dean and previous leadership for their dedication and service to the institution.
