Training Held to Strengthen Community-Led HIV Monitoring in Nepal

Kathmandu: The National Association of People Living with HIV in Nepal (NAP+N), with support from UNDP’s Global Fund project and technical assistance from UNAIDS, has completed two rounds of Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) training in Sauraha, Chitwan. Representatives from the MSM and transgender communities from ten districts took part in the program.

The three-day training helped CLM leaders and district focal persons gain a stronger understanding of CLM concepts, tools and principles. Participants learned how to collect, document and analyse data ethically and confidentially, with the goal of improving HIV-related services.

During the sessions, they reviewed Nepal’s HIV trends, learned about CLM processes, practiced using client feedback tools, and conducted field exercises such as focus group discussions and key informant interviews. The training also emphasized ethical standards in data collection.

Through practical exercises and peer learning, participants built the skills needed to generate community-level evidence and use it for advocacy. The program ended with a commitment from all participants to strengthen community-led monitoring in their districts and ensure that the voices of people living with HIV remain central to Nepal’s HIV response.
