Kathmandu: The UAE has announced US$10 million aid to assist those affected by devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, which have led to hundreds of deaths, injuries and missing persons, as well as extensive damage.
The assistance comes under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and will be carried out through the UAE Aid Agency as part of its urgent humanitarian response.
The first consignment of UAE Humanitarian Assistance to Nepal arrived in Kathmandu on August 29. Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Abdulla Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Alshamsi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Nepal, extended sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Nepal, and wish a speedy recovery to all those injured.
As a reaffirmation of the United Arab Emirates’ solidarity with Nepal and its people during these difficult circumstances, and in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the first consignment of urgent humanitarian aid and relief supplies has arrived in Kathmandu today for those affected by this disaster, the ambassador said.
“This assistance reflects the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Nepal, and the UAE’s commitment to standing by the friendly people of Nepal in times of crisis and natural disasters.”
He also said that this consignment represents the first phase of the UAE’s humanitarian response, and further consignments of assistance will follow, in support of relief efforts and to help meet the humanitarian needs of those affected. He extended sincere thanks to the Government of Nepal, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), and the relevant authorities at the airport, for their prompt and valuable cooperation in facilitating the arrival of humanitarian assistance.
