UAE Celebrates the 54th Anniversary in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Nepal celebrated the 54th anniversary of the founding of the UAE with a special reception attended by Vice President of Nepal Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, senior government ministers, officials, heads of diplomatic missions, and distinguished guests.

Speaking on the occasion, UAE Ambassador to Nepal, Abdulla Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Alshamsi, highlighted the UAE’s remarkable journey since its formation—one driven by visionary leadership and a strong commitment to human-centered development. “The Union has become a unique model of progress, development, and advancement,” he noted, emphasizing that the prosperity of people remains the UAE’s foremost priority.

This year’s National Day celebration coincides with the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2025 as the ‘Year of Community’, reinforcing the values of unity, cooperation, and civic responsibility.

The UAE’s rapid transformations across major sectors—including sustainable development, space exploration, clean energy, and artificial intelligence—were highlighted as examples of the nation’s forward-looking development model. These achievements, the envoy said, stem from a clear national vision, investment in human capital, and prudent use of resources.

Reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to a balanced and open foreign policy, the envoy stressed the importance of dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law. He reiterated the UAE’s belief that peace and development are intertwined and essential for global progress.

On bilateral relations, the envoy praised the deep, friendly, and longstanding partnership between Nepal and the UAE, characterized by mutual respect and shared global priorities such as climate action, peacebuilding, and counter-terrorism. He recalled the UAE’s support during Nepal’s times of crisis, including the 2015 earthquake, COVID-19 pandemic, and recurring natural disasters.

The contribution of the large Nepali diaspora living in the UAE was also acknowledged. Nepali workers, he said, thrive in a secure and multicultural environment and play an important role in the economic development of both nations.

Looking ahead, the UAE expressed readiness to expand cooperation with Nepal in renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, human resource development, and other mutually beneficial sectors. The envoy also commended Nepal’s ongoing efforts toward graduating from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category by 2026.

Concluding the ceremony, the envoy extended gratitude to the Government of Nepal and all attendees for joining the celebration. He offered warm wishes for the prosperity of both nations and peace for the world.
