Kathmandu: The President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lok Bahadur Thapa, addressed the 2nd plenary meeting of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee General Debate on the theme “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism” on October 6.
Speaking on behalf of Nepal, Thapa reaffirmed the country’s firm condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He emphasised the importance of upholding peace, justice, and human dignity while calling for greater international solidarity and cooperation to eradicate the global threat of terrorism.
“Terrorism remains a grave threat to international peace, security, and stability. It transcends borders, destabilises societies, and undermines development. It threatens fundamental human rights, freedom, and human dignity,” stressed ECOSOC president Thapa.
He further noted that the global threat of terrorism has grown increasingly complex and destructive over time, inflicting rising levels of death and devastation across the world.
