Kathmandu: President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, has called for accelerated implementation of the 2030 Agenda, urging countries to translate commitments into concrete policy reforms and action.
Delivering a statement at the session titled “Accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda through voluntary national reviews” during the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development in Bangkok, ECOSOC President Thapa underscored the importance of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in advancing sustainable development.

President Thapa noted that the VNRs, presented annually at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, have emerged as one of the most visible and significant mechanisms for tracking progress on the 2030 Agenda.
Emphasizing the need for tangible outcomes, ECOSOC President Thapa stated that findings from the VNRs must lead to meaningful policy reforms, effective financing strategies, and strengthened partnerships. “Together, let us ensure that every review becomes not only a moment of reflection, but a catalyst for renewed action that reaches the most vulnerable and accelerates progress for all,” the President said.
