UN Resident Coordinator Calls on Minister Kharel

Kathmandu: A team comprising UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer-Hamdy called on Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, on October 9.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Nepal, Kyoko Yokosuka, and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative to Nepal, Jaco du Toit, were also in the team.

During the meeting held at the Ministry in Singha Durbar, Minister Kharel extended gratitude towards the UN for its support to the Government of Nepal.

On the occasion, Minister Kharel opined that the incumbent government has obtained support from all sides. He stated that necessary preparations are underway to conduct the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives in an impartial and fearless environment on the slated date. The government has expected positive support from development partners, including the UN, to make the election successful.

He also lauded the UN’s assistance in disaster management.

Similarly, discussions were held on collaboration between the Government of Nepal and the UNDP in the areas of digital transformation, media literacy promotion, and good governance reforms, it is said.

In response, UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer-Hamdy shared, “The coordination and activeness of the incumbent government shown during the disaster are praiseworthy.”

“We are committed to providing positive support to make the election fair and successful,” she added.
