UN Secretary-General Welcomes Continued Ceasefire in Gaza

Kathmandu: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the continued implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza, based on the proposal by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, which includes the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.

He praised the Governments of Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts and acknowledged the crucial role of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in ensuring the safe and humane release of detainees.

With the ceasefire holding, the UN and its partners are rapidly expanding humanitarian operations across Gaza, delivering life-saving aid to areas that were previously inaccessible.

The Secretary-General called on all parties to consolidate the ceasefire and work toward lasting peace, urging regional and international actors to use this moment to restart a credible political process aimed at achieving a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security.
