UN Secretary-General Welcomes Release of Israeli Hostages, Urges Parties to Uphold Ceasefire in Gaza

Kathmandu: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, expressing profound relief that they have regained their freedom and will soon reunite with their families.

“I very much welcome the release of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza,” the Secretary-General said in a statement. “I am profoundly relieved that they have regained their freedom and will soon be reunited with their loved ones after the immense suffering they have endured.”

He also reiterated his call for the release of the remains of deceased hostages, urging all sides to build on this progress and respect the truce. “I urge all parties to build on this momentum and to honour their commitments under the ceasefire to end the nightmare in Gaza,” he added.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed that the United Nations remains committed to supporting efforts to end the conflict and alleviate the suffering of civilians. “The United Nations is working to support all efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of civilians,” he said.
