UNDP Empowers Women Through Climate-Resilient Water Solutions in Nepal

Kathmandu: UNDP Nepal is helping women in the hill districts transform their lives through climate-resilient water and farming solutions on World Water Day.

Through the Developing Climate Resilient Livelihoods in Vulnerable Watersheds project, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), women like Dil Kumari, Mina, and Ramila are using rainwater harvesting, irrigation ponds, and plastic tunnels to grow crops year-round. These simple interventions reduce the time spent collecting water, improve food security, and create pathways for financial independence.

UNDP officials say the program also strengthens women’s leadership and empowers marginalized communities, proving that access to water and women’s involvement can drive sustainable development.

“When water flows, opportunity grows. When women lead, entire communities thrive,” said the UNDP team.
