UNDP, Finland and Norway Celebrate International School Meals Day in Nepal

Kathmandu: On International School Meals Day, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal, in collaboration with the Embassy of Finland in Kathmandu and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu, highlighted the importance of healthy school meals in supporting student learning and growth.

Through the Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (RERAS) project, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the initiative is strengthening Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) in Nepal.

Currently, 7,262 students across 81 schools in Jumla and Bajura are benefiting from fresh and nutritious meals, sourced from local farmers and 13 farmer cooperatives linked to 41 schools.

Three local governments have also endorsed customized school meal menus across all participating schools, helping improve nutrition outcomes through supportive policies.

By connecting local agriculture to school meals, the #RERAS project supports farmers, enhances child nutrition, and builds resilient food systems.
