Kathmandu: A major flash flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on August 26 sending a powerful surge of water, sediment, and boulders through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, raising concerns over further potential downstream impacts.
Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, said to be saddened by the severe flooding in Nepal and China, which had claimed many lives, left people missing, and caused widespread destruction.
He said, “I extend my condolences to the families of the victims, and I wish a swift recovery to those injured. My solidarity is with all those affected.”
In Nepal, the UN is supporting the Government-led response. UN teams & humanitarian partners are mobilizing supplies & personnel to support communities affected by the floods.
Marco Rubio, 72nd Secretary of State of the US, expressed their solidarity and are united in prayer for the Nepali people following the devastating floods. He said that the State Department stands ready to support the Government of Nepal with needed humanitarian assistance.
