U.S. Embassy Hosts Screening of Nepali Adventure Reality Show ‘The Challengers’

Kathmandu: The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu organized a special screening of the Nepali adventure reality show “The Challengers: Game of the Himalayas” at Octave Restaurant and Lounge, Durbar Marg. The event focused on Nepal’s creative industries and their potential to drive global partnerships, while also showcasing the country’s tourism and adventure sector.

The screening was attended by officials from the U.S. Embassy, including Mike Harker, the Chief of Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, as well as representatives of Nepali organizations, journalists, filmmakers, students, and audiences from different professional backgrounds. Director and producer Sri Gurung, an alumnus of the U.S. Exchange program, was also present.

The reality show features 11 vloggers from six countries who trekked for 12 days from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, capturing adventurous activities along the way. It was filmed in November 2021 under the banner of World Vlog Challenge Pvt. Ltd. and had an estimated cost of around NPR 100 million.

Moreover, the show premiered in New York’s Times Square and Nepal in 2023 and is currently streaming globally on Amazon Prime and YouTube.

During the event, participants discussed the making of the show, its role in promoting Nepal’s tourism, and the broader opportunities for Nepal’s creative sector to engage globally. Embassy officials and audience members also interacted with Director Gurung, showing strong interest in the production process and the impact of such projects on Nepal’s image abroad.

The U.S. Embassy has regularly organized events such as content creator meetups, film screenings, hip-hop, and art workshops in Nepal.
