Kathmandu: Scott Urbom, US Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires, attended AI Summit Nepal 2026, organized by The Startup Network Nepal in partnership with Oorja World, accelerated by Amazon Web Services. The summit convened policymakers, founders, business leaders, and academic voices to examine how AI can be developed in ways that are both innovative and grounded in local needs.
In his remarks, Urbom emphasized the importance of building reliable, transparent AI systems tailored to local needs, supported by stronger infrastructure, data ecosystems, and skilled talent. He also noted opportunities for U.S.–Nepal collaboration in expanding access to advanced tools, developing the workforce, connecting startups to global markets, and strengthening policies for responsible AI use.
The program contributed to advancing key shared priorities by supporting continued engagement in Nepal’s growing digital and innovation ecosystem. Such engagement helps encourage the development of open, secure, and interoperable digital systems, while also creating space for collaboration with American companies, platforms, and expertise in emerging markets. These efforts strengthen economic ties, expand commercial opportunities, and promote internationally recognized standards for responsible technology development.
The Embassy stated that they continue to support Nepal’s innovation ecosystem by connecting Nepali founders with American American expertise, tools, and networks, helping them build practical, scalable solutions. Such engagement demonstrates how the U.S.-Nepal partnership continues to deliver tangible impact while advancing shared economic growth and innovation.
