World Cup Qualifiers: Nepal Registers Victory Against Qatar

Kathmandu: Nepal recorded a five-run victory over Qatar in the Super Six stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifier underway in Oman.

In the match played on Monday at the Oman Cricket Academy Turf-1 in Al Amerat, Nepal secured its second consecutive win in the Super Six, following a thrilling one-run victory against the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

Batting first, Nepal posted a target of 148 runs, which Qatar fell short of, being bowled out for 142 runs in 19.5 overs.

Sandeep Lamichhane was the standout performer for Nepal, claiming five wickets, while Nandan Yadav and Dipendra Singh Airee took two and one wickets, respectively, to seal the win.

Nepal had earlier advanced to the Super Six as the winner of Group ‘B’, after defeating Kuwait and Japan in the group stage.

The Nepali squad features captain Rohit Kumar Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Ashif Sheikh, Kushal Bhurtel, Sandeep Jora, Kushal Malla, Gulshan Kumar Jha, Sompal Kami, Nandan Yadav, Mohammad Adil Alam, and Sandeep Lamichhane.

With this victory, Nepal has strengthened its position in the race to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
