Kathmandu: The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu participated in a dialogue meeting hosted by ICIMOD that brought together Sámi reindeer herders from the Arctic and yak herders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya.
The event, titled “From Kautokeino to Kathmandu: Yak–Sámi Cross-Regional Exchange,” continued the collaboration that began in Tromsø in 2018. Despite living in distant regions, both Indigenous communities face similar challenges due to climate change.
The dialogue highlighted their shared experiences, resilience, and the importance of stronger recognition and cooperation. The Norwegian Embassy also hosted a dinner for the participants following the event.
