KATHMANDU: Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, has emphasized the importance of peacebuilding and the link between development and peace.
At the Peacebuilding Commission’s (PBC) Annual Commemorative Meeting, he underscored the PBC’s vital role in conflict prevention and sustaining peace. He called for nationally-led solutions, addressing root causes of conflict, and adopting a people-centered approach to peacebuilding.
Similarly, Speaking at the UN Security Council High-Level Debate on Poverty, Underdevelopment, and Conflict, Ambassador Thapa highlighted the strong nexus between peace and development. He stressed the need for better coordination between the UN’s peace and development efforts, increased financing for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the fulfillment of climate finance commitments.
