Russian Ambassador Surovtsev Meets with Delegation from the Russian Branch of ICOM

Kathmandu: H.E. Alexey Surovtsev, Ambassador of Russia to Nepal, met with a delegation from the Russian branch of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

The delegation included: Artem Silkin, Vice-President of the ICOM-Russia regional branch and Director of the museum-reserve “Sviyazhsk Island-Town”; Olga Chistanova, Executive Director of the ICOM-Russia branch; and Natalia Fedyanina, Board Member and Director of the Norilsk Museum.

Earlier, ICOM-Nepal President Ramesh Dawadi, with the support of the Russian Embassy in Nepal, took part in the St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum.

The delegation’s visit to Nepal, organized with the support of the Russian House in Kathmandu, was a natural progression of cooperation with the ICOM-Nepal regional branch. It is aimed at familiarization with Nepal’s museum sector and establishing direct contacts with the leadership of Nepalese museums.

The visit program includes: tours of the main museum complexes in the Kathmandu Valley, negotiations with the heads of relevant organizations, as well as an expert roundtable scheduled to be held at the Russian House on July 23, which is expected to be attended by representatives of more than a dozen and a half Nepalese museums.

Based on the outcomes of the Russian delegation’s visit, it is planned to organize an educational program in the future aimed at advancing the professional qualifications of Nepalese specialists in the field of museum work.
