Kathmandu: Hon. Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Minister for Finance, held a meeting with H.E. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance of the State of Qatar, in Doha on September 29. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.
During the meeting, Minister Wagle expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Qatar for support extended to Nepal following the catastrophic Bhote Koshi flash flood, and also requested for continued support in reconstruction as well. He also expressed thanks for employment opportunities for Nepali community in Qatar.
Besides, in view of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Qatar commencing from January 2027, Minister Wagle requested for Qatari investments in three projects named Chandragiri-Chitlang-Palung-Chitwan Expressway, Nalsing Gad Storage Hydroelectric Project, and Simbuwa Khola Hydroelectric Project.
Fondly recalling the State Visit of H.H. the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Nepal in 2024, Minister Al Kuwari said that support from his government would be extended for rehabilitation and rebuilding. He also said that Qatari government would facilitate the investment from Qatar to the aforesaid development projects in Nepal.
Minister Dr. Waglé also held separate meetings with H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia, and H.E. Vahe Hovhannisyan, Minister of Finance of Armenia. During the meetings, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and discussed avenues for further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
Later in the afternoon, Hon. Minister Dr. Waglé visited the Embassy of Nepal in Doha. Chargé d’Affaires Kumar Rai apprised the Minister of the Embassy activities and the current state of Nepal-Qatar relations. The Minister instructed the Embassy officials to continue working with greater dedication for the upliftment of Nepal and Nepali people. Furthermore, he interacted with representatives from Nepali community residing in Qatar.
