Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal, in partnership with FAO and the Government of China, officially launched the “Strengthening Agrifood Systems in Nepal” project. The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Hon. Gita Chaudhary, Minister for Agriculture, Forests, and Environment (MoAFE), alongside H.E. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador of China to Nepal, Hua Yang, Director of FAO’s South-South and Triangular Cooperation Division, and Ken Shimizu, FAO Representative for Bhutan and Nepal.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Chaudhary said that the project will help advance climate-smart agriculture, strengthen food and nutrition security, improve market access, and support more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for the people of Nepal.
“Strong country ownership and partnership are essential to transforming agrifood systems and delivering lasting benefits for farmers and rural communities,” Director Yang.
“Through South-South Cooperation, technology transfer and knowledge exchange, this initiative will help strengthen agricultural productivity, resilience and food security while supporting Nepal’s agricultural modernization,” said Ambassador Zhang
Country Representative Shimizu highlighted that through partnership, innovation and locally driven solutions, this initiative will help build more resilient and inclusive agrifood systems that strengthen food security, improve rural livelihoods and leave no one behind.
FAO Nepal stated that funded through China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, this initiative will help strengthen climate-resilient and inclusive agrifood systems in Nepal through innovation, digital services, improved market access, and better opportunities for women, youth and rural communities.
