Kathmandu: Inspector General duo participated in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York representing Nepal held on July 7-8, 2026.
Dan Bahadur Karki of Nepal Police (NP) and Narayan Dutta Paudel of Armed Police Force (APF) highlighted the importance of international police cooperation for strengthening global peace, security, and the rule of law.
Addressing the summit, IGP Karki mentioned that with the changing global security landscape, challenges arising from cybercrime, human trafficking, transnational organized crime, terrorism, economic crime, and the misuse of digital technology cannot be solved by the efforts of any single nation alone. He also highlighted the need to further strengthen international cooperation through information exchange, capacity building, joint training, and the effective use of technology.
IGP Karki discussed the role the Nepal Police has played for decades in United Nations peacekeeping missions with professionalism, impartiality, and discipline, and expressed confidence that Nepal’s commitment to world peace will continue. Furthermore, he shared that the Nepal Police is committed to developing modern police services by focusing on increasing the participation of female police officers, community-police partnerships, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.
IGP Karki highlighted the need to strengthen trust, coordination, and partnership among member states for the effective resolution of shared peace and security challenges, and called on all nations to unite in building a safe, just, and peaceful world.
This address, presented on behalf of the Nepal Police, has effectively highlighted Nepal’s security perspective, professional capability, and firm commitment to world peace on the international stage.
Likewise, during the UNCOPS, 2026) Inspector General of the APF, Nepal, Narayan Datta Paudel, held bilateral meetings with various high-ranking officials from the United Nations and friendly nations.
During these meetings, he had cordial discussions with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix (UN Department of Peace Operations); Assistant Secretary-General, Ms. Lisa Buttenheim (Department of Operational Support); UNPOL Adviser, Mr. Faisal Shahkar; Chief of the Selection and Recruitment Section, Mr. Ata Yenigun; Her Excellency Dana Humaid Al Marzooqi of the United Arab Emirates; and Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H. E. Lok Bahadur Thapa.
These meetings focused on reiterating Nepal’s continuous commitment to global peacekeeping, strengthening cooperation with the United Nations, and making the deployment and role of the APF, Nepal, more effective in various upcoming peace missions.
The high-ranking officials present at the event praised the high professionalism, efficiency, discipline, and outstanding performance demonstrated by the APF, Nepal, in UN peace missions, and expressed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the days to come.
