Kathmandu: H.E. Md Golam Sarwar, the Secretary General of SAARC paid a farewell courtesy call on H.E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister praised the Secretary General’s dedicated services and leadership in steering the SAARC during a challenging global and regional landscape. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the SAARC and its Charter, emphasizing that regional cooperation remains a vital pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy to achieve socioeconomic development, poverty alleviation, and connectivity in South Asia. He also expressed condolences on the loss of life in Bangladesh due to heavy rains and flash floods.
The Secretary General expressed profound gratitude to the Government and people of Pakistan for the steadfast support extended to the SAARC Secretariat throughout his tenure. The Secretary General highlighted Pakistan’s role in advancing various regional initiatives.
Both dignitaries exchanged views on the future of regional integration, agreeing on the critical need to revitalize SAARC mechanisms to effectively address shared challenges such as climate change, food security, health, and post-pandemic economic recovery. They also exchanged views on the security situation in West Asia.
The Prime Minister expressed his good wishes to the Secretary General for his future plans.
