Ambassador Thapa Addresses the UN Peacebuilding Commission Annual Session

Kathmandu: Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, addressed the UN Peacebuilding Commission Annual Session marking 20 years of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture on June 26. While addressing the session, he said, “Peace must be nurtured continuously through dialogue, inclusion, institution building and steady strengthening of public trust.”

He shared Nepal’s unique, home-grown, country-owned and country-led peace process, underlining the importance of national ownership and leadership for lasting peace. He also stressed on inclusive participation of women, youth, and marginalized communities not only as beneficiaries but as co-architect of peace.

Ambassador Thapa also stressed the need for addressing root causes of conflict, including poverty, exclusion, inequality, and lack of opportunity, and emphasized that peacebuilding must be supported by sustained partnerships across national actors, the UN system, development partners, and financial institutions.
