Ambassador Thapa Attends the IMRF2026 Side Event on Strengthening Diaspora and Migrant Community

Kathmandu: Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, attended the International Migration Review Forum 2026 (IMRF2026) side event on strengthening diaspora and migrant community support mechanisms where he reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to rights-based, inclusive and human-centered migration governance. 

Ambassador Thapa highlighted the continued relevance of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), Nepal’s ongoing reforms for safer migration pathways, and the urgent need to address some challenges including exploitation, unsafe recruitment, and social protection gaps for migrant workers. He also emphasized the vital role of diaspora and migrant communities as co-creators of inclusive and humane migration governance.

Drawing from his diplomatic experience working closely with migrant workers across countries, Ambassador Thapa underscored the urgency of stronger protection systems and dignified social protection for all.
