Kathmandu: The Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, co-chaired the High-Level Policy Dialogue titled “Asia-Pacific: The Next Great Divergence?”, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on January 21.
The dialogue underscored the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to drive innovation, productivity, efficiency, and sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific region, while also warning that without urgent, deliberate, and inclusive action, AI could exacerbate existing digital, economic, and social inequalities.
Addressing the forum, Ambassador Thapa emphasized the need for a human-centred and inclusive approach to AI, calling for efforts to close digital divides, strengthen capacity and governance frameworks, and ensure that AI contributes to human development for all in Asia and the Pacific.
