Kathmandu: Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of the International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) and President of the Ambassador’s Club, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal.
During the meeting, Ambassador Zhang warmly welcomed Dr. Dhakal and expressed appreciation for Nepal’s democratic values, aspirations for stability, good governance, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed that China regards Nepal as a close and trusted neighbor and remains committed to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in the years ahead.
Dr. Dhakal congratulated Ambassador Zhang on his appointment and extended best wishes for a successful tenure in Nepal. As a gesture of goodwill, she presented commemorative materials from the Ambassador’s Club and The Diplomat Nepal magazine. In return, Ambassador Zhang presented the book Hi, I’m China, reflecting China’s development journey, culture, and modernization.
Both sides exchanged views on strengthening Nepal–China relations, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, infrastructure development, renewable energy, tourism, education, technology transfer, and human resource development. Dr. Dhakal highlighted China’s achievements in innovation and economic transformation as valuable lessons for developing countries, while emphasizing Nepal’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment through continued policy reforms.
Ambassador Zhang underscored China’s focus on high-quality development under its current national development framework and expressed confidence that ongoing reforms will create expanded opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions also covered Nepal’s efforts to strengthen governance, transparency, and economic stability. Both sides agreed on the importance of fostering a conducive environment for sustainable foreign investment and strategic partnerships.
Reaffirming longstanding diplomatic principles, Ambassador Zhang reiterated China’s commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutual respect, and non-interference. Dr. Dhakal, in turn, reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to One China Policy and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong and balanced relations with neighboring countries.
Dr. Dhakal further expressed confidence that under Ambassador Zhang’s leadership, Nepal–China relations will continue to deepen across economic diplomacy, infrastructure, connectivity, cultural exchange, education, and tourism cooperation.
Ambassador Zhang appreciated the initiatives of IRGDD and the Ambassador’s Club in promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and Track 1.5 and Track 2 engagement, noting their contribution to strengthening Nepal’s international engagement and soft power.
The meeting concluded in a cordial and forward-looking atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the Nepal–China Strategic Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Ever-lasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity.
