Kathmandu: Ambassadors of the European Union Member States based in Kathmandu and New Delhi paid a joint courtesy call to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, at the Ministry on May 25.

On the occasion, Minister Khanal appreciated the European Union’s continued development partnership with Nepal and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, climate action, education, and people-to-people ties.

He shared efficient service delivery and a strong anti-corruption stance as two major pillars of good governance, alongside rapid economic growth as key priorities of the Government.

Minister Khanal also shared the ongoing economic reforms aimed at facilitating investment, enhancing export competitiveness and promoting innovation, and invited greater investment in areas of hydropower, tourism, infrastructure development and information technology.

In light of the considerable progress Nepal has made and the reforms that remain actively underway, he requested the EU Member States to give due consideration to support Nepal in the process of delisting it from the EU Air Safety List.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, the EU Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, stated that the objective of the visit was to reaffirm the support of EU Member States to the new government, as well as to explore opportunities for engagement between Nepal and the EU Member States, including the sharing of EU expertise in e-governance and digitalisation.
