Kathmandu: Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Great Independence and National Day with due solemnity and great festivity. The national flag was hoisted at the Embassy premises by Bangladesh Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman. Followed by the flag hoisting was a special prayer offered for salvation of the souls of martyrs of the Liberation War.
A discussion session on the significance of the Great Independence and National Day was also organized at the Embassy premises. During the discussion session, messages by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out. Members of the Bangladesh community actively participated in the session.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Rahman paid tribute to the three million martyrs, two hundred thousand women and all heroic freedom fighters, who made supreme sacrifices for the great independence. He recalled the history, essence and spirit of the Great Independence Day and emphasized on the importance of working together under the able leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahmn to establish a Bangladesh free from discrimination and injustice and secure democracy, peace and prosperity in the country. He also urged the community to work from their respective positions to move Bangladesh forward.
The event was attended by the representatives from SAARC Secretariat, Bangladesh Biman, ICIMOD as well as the Bangladesh community living in Nepal.
Bangladesh Embassy is going to organize a grand reception on the occasion of 55th anniversary of the Great Independence and National Day on 27 March 2026 in a local hotel. The Vice President of Nepal will grace the event as Chief Guest and it will be attended by the Ambassadors and Heads of Mission serving in Nepal, the Ministers and politicians of Nepal, high-level government officials, members of the civil society and think-tanks, eminent business persons and Bangladesh community in Nepal.
