Kathmandu: The British Embassy in Kathmandu and See-Saw Films hosted a special screening of Tenzing, a film depicting the historic ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, in Kathmandu, highlighting the enduring ties between Nepal and the United Kingdom and their shared Himalayan heritage.
The screening was held at QFX Cinemas. A reception at the British Embassy was attended by members of the film’s cast and crew, the Chair of the Nepal-UK Friendship Parliamentary Group, Tenzing Norgay’s son and other guests.
Tenzing follows the British expedition to Mount Everest and the extraordinary partnership between Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, who became the first confirmed climbers to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain in 1953.
Speaking at the reception, British Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Luke Beaumont said the embassy has supported the film as a way of showcasing Nepal to an international audience.
“We wanted to get behind this film as a way to showcase just how incredible Nepal is to the world,” Beaumont said. “And now is the time to inspire new visitors, and to say Nepal is open,” he said.
