KATHMANDU: The Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, has been actively participating in social and educational initiatives, as well as conducting observation visits to agricultural and small-scale industries across various parts of Jhapa since Tuesday.
On June 10, Ambassador Song visited several local enterprises, including a bamboo chair-making industry in Arjundhara-10, Kalijhoda, and a leaf plate-making industry in Arjundhara-2. According to Keshav Dhungel, personal secretary to Speaker Devraj Ghimire and the coordinator of the ambassador’s visit, Ambassador Song is scheduled to observe a cow farm in Arjundhara-6 and a fish farm in Arjundhara-10 on Wednesday, June 11.
“They are gathering on-site information about potential areas for investment,” Dhungel said.
As part of his educational outreach, Ambassador Song provided educational materials to 1,900 students in Birtamod and Arjundhara municipalities. On Tuesday alone, he distributed 19 different types of educational supplies to 1,500 students at Shanishare High School in Arjundhara and to 400 students at Durga High School in Birtamod.
In addition, Ambassador Song, alongside Birtamod Municipality Mayor Pavitra Prasai, inaugurated a newly constructed four-room, two-storey building at Shukraraj Basic School in Birtamod-8. The building was built with the support of the Chinese Embassy at Rs 5 million.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Song emphasized the critical role of education in national development. “Education is the foundation of progress. China’s development has been possible because of its focus on education,” he said, adding that Nepal and China share a long-standing friendship.
He also recalled that following the 2015 earthquake, China supported the construction of 10 schools in various parts of Nepal.
Mayor Prasai expressed gratitude for China’s continued support in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, and education, noting that such cooperation is vital for the development of Birtamod.
